Facades and terraces: choosing materials

Facades and terraces have different requirements. Choose the material together with the construction, finish and installation system for the specific location.

This is material-selection guidance. Confirm with LAGO whether fabrication or installation for your particular facade or terrace project is available before ordering.

What matters in this space?

  1. 01

    Cladding or a walking surface?

A facade needs an appropriate fixing system. For a terrace, assess the selected finish’s slip resistance and supporting construction too.

  2. 02

    The material in its environment

Check manufacturer guidance for outdoor use, sunlight and moisture. One collection’s properties do not automatically apply to every surface.

  3. 03

    Confirm the scope first

Have site photographs or a project drawing ready. Clarify the solution and the available scope of service in the discussion.

Which materials should you consider?

Compare appearance, everyday use and care. The choice depends on the actual slab, finish, thickness and project design.

Silestone

An engineered mineral surface with recycled materials, by Cosentino

Not recommended outdoors

Appearance and use

Collection-led colours and patterns as an alternative to a natural slab. Cosentino advises against outdoor Silestone use because of UV exposure.

Care and limitations

Choose a material with manufacturer-confirmed suitability for the outdoor project.

Material guide

Dekton

An ultra-compact sintered mineral surface by Cosentino

Assess the specific solution

Appearance and use

Designs inspired by stone, concrete and other surfaces. Manufacturer-documented outdoor uses require the appropriate product, finish and system.

Care and limitations

Check terrace slip resistance and facade fixings. Material properties do not approve the whole construction.

Material guide

Granite

Natural igneous stone

Assess the specific solution

Appearance and use

Mineral grains, colour and pattern vary between slabs. Outdoor suitability depends on the specific stone data and chosen finish.

Care and limitations

The stone and project require technical assessment; not every slab is suitable.

Material guide

Marble

Natural metamorphic stone

Assess the specific solution

Appearance and use

Natural veining and tonal variation unique to each slab. Desired veining alone is not enough for outdoors; assess the actual stone.

Care and limitations

Assess weathering and use with the stone supplier and project specialist.
